The RBC Heritage Odds, History, Picks
The PGA Tour rolls into Hilton Head Island this week for the prestigious RBC Heritage, a tournament known for its iconic plaid jacket awarded to the champion. With a strong field featuring the likes of Masters odds favorite and eventual champion Scottie Scheffler and fan favorites Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, the fight for this coveted tartan trophy promises to be intense. Harbour Town Golf Links, with its notoriously tight fairways and tricky winds, will test the world’s best as they battle for FedExCup points and a place in golf history.
Tournament History
The RBC Heritage, steeped in tradition, dates back to 1969. Originally known as the Heritage Classic, it was the brainchild of developer Charles Fraser, who envisioned a PGA Tour event on the newly created Harbour Town Golf Links. The inaugural tournament, held on Thanksgiving weekend, benefitted from the star power of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, solidifying the event’s future. Over the years, the tournament has bounced around the calendar before settling into its current April slot, the week following the Masters. It’s become a Hilton Head staple, attracting world-class golfers and generating millions for the local economy.

2024 RBC Heritage Odds: Best Bets

Shane Lowry Top 20 +130 (FanDuel)
He didn’t have the week he had hoped for at Augusta, but Shane has been playing really good golf over the past month or so, including a couple of top-5 finishes in March. He ranks highly in the driving accuracy stats that I’m looking at this week and should be able to play the positional golf that’s needed to solve this Pete Dye puzzle. The putter really stung him here last year, but the two previous stops at Harbour Town ended with top-10 finishes. I like him to compete for the whole thing and think his floor is likely in the 15-25 range. – Andy Molitor
Shane Lowry’s game is perfectly suited for courses like Harbour Town and his form prime as well. Lowry ranks third in this week’s field in SG: APP this season, gaining 0.88 strokes per round. He’s up nearly double on his 2023 mark, and he’s really leaned into the off-the-tee precision, becoming one of the more accurate off-the-tee players on the PGA Tour.
Lowry ranks fourth in my model this week, thriving on SG: BS (less-than-driver) and SG: APP on courses with small greens. He’s also fared well on corollary courses, including a T3 finish here in 2022 with Cam Young and Cam Davis. Lowry was a late addition to the field via a sponsor exemption, which led to a discount on his initial price. – Ryan Noonan
Ludvig Aberg T10 +140 (DraftKings)
What more do we need to see from Aberg? He’s contended on long courses, in weak fields, strong fields, and positional courses like Harbour Town (won RSM, 2nd Pebble, 8th PLAYERS). He was runner-up at the Masters in his first major and in his last 14 starts, he has 10 T10s and has finished outside the top 30 just once. – Ron Klos
