Coby White is set to return to the Chicago Bulls on a fresh deal!
The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first to break the news that White has inked a three-year deal with the franchise worth $33 million. However, shortly after, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski chimed in stating that the contract was actually for $40 million. NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson proceeded to echo Woj’s report, seemingly confirming that White’s deal is for $40 million.
Regardless of the logistics (both could be correct, as the $40 million might be the total with potential bonuses), the totals being reported here are under what many initially expected White to receive. Shooting roughly 38.0 percent from downtown over the past two seasons with Chicago, white has proven to be an above-average long-range threat with an improving game. He showed notable progress as a ball-handler and defender in his fourth season with the Bulls, ultimately making re-signing him a presumably easy decision.
White will now head into the 2023-24 campaign with a chance to reclaim the starting point guard spot. While he’s likely best suited as a Sixth Man, the Bulls are in desperate need of a lead ball-handler with Lonzo Ball remaining sidelined. Could White prove to be their answer as he continues to develop?
We’ll see. No matter the case, I’m happy to see White back in a Bulls jersey! He’s exactly the kind of young asset the Bulls should continue to invest in. And they got him on a good deal!
