While you await today’s game – TENSE! – here’s the latest on Eddy Julio Martinez, who may or may not be in agreement on a deal with the Chicago Cubs. The “may” part came via multiple reports, but the “may not” part came via the Giants’ GM, who recently indicated things weren’t quite settled yet.
For his part, though, MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez appears to remain firmly confident that Martinez will be signing with the Cubs:

Said almost with a wink, I’d imagine, Sanchez was repeatedly asked about Martinez, and repeatedly responded, as you can see, only with “Cubs.”
We’ve seen it before, and sometimes these things take a little while to formally resolve. Until Martinez is holding up the Cubs jersey, I won’t feel 100% confident that it’s a done deal. For now, though, things look good.
