The Cardinals Scored Five With Two Outs in the 9th To Win and Other Highlights

It should be another really busy day today, with a bunch more posts lined up for the afternoon. Although, I have a feeling BIF is going to look like a San Francisco Giant’s blog before the day is through. They played a really wild one last night, with a number of memorable moments. So stay tuned for that.

We’ll get to all of that soon, but first let’s get onto the highlights ….

1. The Comeback Cardinals. It’s certainly starting to feel like the Cardinals come back a heck of a lot, isn’t it? And I may not love to admit it, but I’ll be damned if last night’s comeback wasn’t a thing of (infuriating) beauty. Down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals eventually found themselves with two outs and a runner on first – their win probability at this point was just 0.4%. But then, a walk, a hit batter, two singles, two more walks, AND ANOTHER FREAKIN HIT BATTER later, allowed the Cardinals to score their fifth – and winning – run. They remain well behind the Cubs (11.0 games) in the NL Central, but are tied for the Second Wild Card spot, as of today.

2. The Batmen. There’s not a lot of context or interesting analysis I can add to the following 2-for-1 highlight, but I did find these plays particularly impressive, given the amount of focus required to pull either one of them off (and I wanted to write Batmen). Watch as Todd Frazier and Ryon Healy jump over broken bats, stick with the ball and make fantastic plays to get their respective runners at first.

3. More Sliding Magic. There has certainly been no shortage of impressive, “magic” slides lately, but this one is quite a bit different. For the most part those magic slides include runners that may have stretched for one base too many and are forced to contort their body in unusual ways to avoid looking like a fool the tag. Freddie Freeman, however, over-slid second base, trying to stretch a single into a double, but likely would have been safe if he stayed on the bag. Instead, he zooms past it and has to dive back just in time to avoid the out. Atypical, but still magical:
