#BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 12

Chicago Cubs

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 40 hours straight, until a little past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

Total Posts So Far:

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

The Cubs are reportedly watching a pair of controlled relievers closely, nothing super great on the injury update front, the Mets are hinting that they won’t trade a starting pitcher, the Astros traded for Roberto Osuna, and the Indians have talked to the Nationals about Bryce Harper.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

The Pirates and a billion other teams being in on Chris Archer and the Rays actually asking for best-and-final type offers!

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Still this: I love that the Cubs picked up a reliever so early in the process – targeting Jesse Chavez on the cheap – as well as a starting pitcher. They are now in a position where they can keep tabs on the controllable starting market, and also wait for another relief bargain.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Coke Zero number three. The options get more exotic as the later hours arrive. We’re less than 1/3 of the way in!

Still, this was pretty stimulating:

Where I’m Writing:

Just at my place. The couch mostly, but I’m currently on the ground as the laptop is plugged in and charging. I mean, I’m sure I could find a plug such that I could still be sitting upright, but … meh.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

OK, so you insanely awesome people did it – we’re WAY past the $18,000 mark for Make-A-Wish, which means I have to make good on my promise to go out, literally right now, and get my first ever tattoo. I am of course nervous, not the least of which because I know what I want, but it’s not like I’m any kind of artist to be able to draw it up to show the tattoo artist. It’s not super complicated, though, so maybe it’ll be fine. They’re pros. It’ll be fine. It’s only forever.
