Back into two-game mode today, as we’ve got Game Three of the ALCS at 4:07pm CT and Game Four of the NLCS at 6:45pm CT. Why the league intentionally built in overlap I don’t quite understand, but I guess it was so the first game could avoid as much football as possible while the second doesn’t start to late?
Anyway, as for last night …
Philadelphia Phillies 4, San Diego Padres 2 – PHI Leads NLCS 2-1
Kyle Schwarber led off the bottom of the first with a rocket homer for the Phillies, which doesn’t look like as much because of the one he hit off of Yu Darvish, but it was still destroyed:
Speaking of the one off of Darvish, the two friends saw each other before the game, and I thought Darvish was supposed to punch Schwarber:
Anyway, the Padres tied things up in top of the 4th, only to have Jean Segura do the whole “how in the world did he hit that for a single” thing in the bottom of the frame, scoring two, and ultimately giving the Phillies a lead they would not relinquish:
The game’s end was mildly controversial, as Jurickson Profar was called out on a check swing in the 9th that maybe wasn’t a swing. He got himself tossed immediately:
It was just about as close as a call can possibly get – I could have seen this going either way, to be honest:
Seranthony Domínguez closed it out from there, Phillies take the game, and take the 2-1 lead in the series. Game Four is tonight at 6:45pm CT, with Mike Clevinger facing Bailey Falter. Bullpens be ready, I think.
