CUBS LINEUP — And we’re back! After an uncharacteristically long break for the spring (afternoon game on Sunday, no game Monday, night game on Tuesday), the Chicago Cubs are back in action tonight against the Brewers. Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup standing behind (Opening Day starter) Justin Steele.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Mike Tauchman, RF
- Seiya Suzuki, LF
- Cody Bellinger, CF
- Chris Morel, 3B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Michael Busch, 1B
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- David Peralta, DH
- Yan Gomes, C
Just like Craig Counsell mentioned (and we discussed earlier), Seiya Suzuki is getting some run in left field tonight, when the games don’t matter. That would be, of course, just in case it came up during the year, not because of any potential change or concern. Versatility preparedness and whatnot. For what it’s worth, if this was an actual regular season Cubs lineup (with Ian Happ still out injured), I think Tauchman would be in left with Suzuki in right. Tauchman would probably be leading off, though. He has some experience there and it allows everyone else to stay in (batting order) position.
Speaking of which, Happ is still out with his hamstring injury, despite some hope that he could get into a game over the weekend. Hopefully he’s nearing a return, because the regular season starts just two weeks from Thursday! You’d love for him to get into a bit of a rhythm, especially if he’s going to lead off as expected.
Both teams have mostly regulars and starters in there tonight, which makes a whole lot of sense considering that both teams are using starters from their rotation. Does that mean David Peralta has an inside shot to make the roster? Eh. I’m not so sure. But it’s not lost on me that he’s in there tonight. Probably doesn’t mean NOTHING. It’s just a whole different story without Ian Happ around.
Milwaukee Brewers Lineup:
- Garrett Mitchell, RF
- William Contreras, C
- Christian Yelich, LF
- Rhys Hoskins, 1B
- Willy Adames, SS
- Jake Bauers, DH
- Jackson Chourio, CF
- Brice Turang, 2B
- Joey Ortiz, 3B
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Justin Steele, LHP
Milwaukee Brewers: Colin Rea, RHP
