Tournament Format

Just like last week, and most of the PGA Tour’s other tournaments, the Wells Fargo is a stroke play event. Golfers compete against the rest of the field trying to make the cut for the weekend. Where the field of 156 players will be reduced down to 65 including players tied. These players then compete to finish with the lowest 72-hole score to win the tournament.

With this being yet another designated event, many of the sports best golfers will be participating. Outside of Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, 17 of the top 20 in the OWGR will be here. This includes Rory McIlroy, who’s playing his first tournament since missing the cut at The Masters.

This is an event which Rory has enjoyed in the past as he’s won it 3 times. Also participating this week is defending Wells Fargo champ Max Homa. Max is the only other golfer to have won this event multiple times and he’s looking to become the first to do it in back to back years.

To nobodies surprise, Rory McIlroy is the favorite to become a 4-time winner here. He’s had a couple weeks to rest so he could be tough to beat this weekend in Charlotte. Fresh off his extremely enjoyable trip to Puerto Vallarta where he won the Mexico Open, Tony Finau is +1400 to stay hot in North Carolina. See all the opening odds for Quail Hollow Club HERE.

Just a regular guy who absolutely loves sports. I've been playing, watching, and recreationally betting on sports for over 30 years. My favorite sports to attack at the sportsbook are Football (NFL/NCAAF), College Basketball, and most recently - the NASCAR Cup Series. I'm not an "expert" and I don't have or use betting models, but I do put in the research and apply that to my wagers which are mostly backed by the trending data with of course a little, as Gibbs from the show NCIS would say "Gut Feeling" contributing to the side chosen. Sports betting should be fun and enjoyable so always play within your means and NEVER chase your losses. You can follow me on Twitter @Brian_Twining - Let's try and win some bets!
