The Los Angeles Rams are looking to shed cap and plenty of it. One day after the team parted ways with linebacker Bobby Wagner, the team is reportedly discussing a trade of six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news this evening. Pelissero is reporting that the Rams have had trade talks regarding Ramsey. Pelissero believes a trade is “very likely” in the coming weeks.
The Rams will free up roughly $5 million in cap space when Bobby Wagner’s release becomes official on March 15. The Rams are $14.8 million over the cap as of today, so Wagner (and possibly Ramsey) won’t be the last of the cap casualties.
Ramsey has a $25.2 million cap number in 2023. Trading Ramsey would provide the Rams with more desperately needed cap space. Ramsey is set to make $14.5 million in 2023 and $15.5 million in 2024 in the final two years of his extension with the Rams.
If the Rams traded Ramsey before June 1, they would have a $19.6 million cap saving with $5.6 million in dead money in 2023.
Ramsey logged 88 tackles and four interceptions this season on his way to a sixth Pro Bowl selection.
The Rams can’t officially trade Ramsey until March 15.
