NFL Notes: Chase Young Feeling Explosive, Lions Season Ticket Surge, More

We’ve got football tonight! The Jets and Browns will square off in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, at 7:00 p.m. (CT). We’ll have a pre-game post and game thread up an hour before the game, so come and chat. It’s just an exhibition game, but we’re back, and that’s exciting.

Chase Young Feeling Explosive

Speaking of back, Chase Young believes that he is indeed back. Young has been the subject of much debate since he tore his ACL during the 2021 season and missed almost all last season. As a result, the Commanders declined to exercise Youg’s fifth-year option, and there was even some chatter about trading Young this offseason.

But Young says that he’s feeling good at training camp. Explosive, to be exact. On a recent visit with Kay Adams on the Up and Adams show Young said that he hasn’t spent much time on the naysayers but is confident that he will be able to silence them this season.

“I’ve never really paid attention to the outside noise,” Young said. “For me, it was always when Chase is 100 percent; Chase is pretty good. I’ve always been just where my feet is at, trying to get healthy. Now that I’m healthy let’s see what happens.”

Chase Young

Adams asked Young whether or not he thought that the Commanders declining his fifth-year option was a good thing — because Young could land a bigger deal in free agency if he bounced back — Young said that he’s heard of that theory but is just focused on trying to “go hard every day” and let things play out from there.

Young logged 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three recoveries, six tackles for loss, and four passes defended as a rookie in 2020. If he could return to that form, he’ll become the top option on the market in free agency, assuming Nick Bosa gets his extension in San Francisco.

Lions Season Ticket Surge

It’s been the offseason of the Lions. Detroit has been riding a hype train that head coach Dan Campbell recently said has “gone off the rails,” their fans are buying into the hype. For the first time since the Lions opened Ford Field in 2002, Detroit has had to establish a season ticket waiting list.

Some have the Lions favored to win the NFC North, giving them a good chance to host a playoff game. This would be their first home playoff game in almost 30 years since their time at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1993.

As usual, season ticket holders will have the first chance to purchase tickets for this exciting event. If the Lions have a successful season, they may even see an increase in their season ticket waiting list. This would certainly be a rewarding outcome for their dedicated fan base, who have experienced many ups and downs over the years.

Extra Points

  • Diontae Johnson 👀
  • It’s been a tough week for the Broncos after losing Tim Patrick to an Achilles injury and K.J. Hamler to a diagnosis of pericarditis. Mike Klis of KUSA reports that linebacker Jonas Griffith injured his ACL during this week’s practice session. Griffin will miss the entire 2023 season.
  • Justin Fields and the Bears’ offense had a tough day on Wednesday. But as they say, iron sharpens iron, and sometimes the offense needs a day like that to continue growing. You can read about that and more from training camps around the NFL in Wednesday’s training camp notebook:
  • Yes, we’ve seen the (loose) connection. Yes, it makes sense from a schematic standpoint. No, it’s not happening. Luis does a great job of explaining why Bears fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about a potential Jonathan Taylor acquisition.
