Rebuilding Better than the Bulls, Zion in the House, Rose Drops Out, and Other Bulls Bullets

I feel like I just drank 10 gallons of coffee, and now I’m crashing harder than Kool-Aid man through a brick wall.

The trade deadline moves incredibly fast around the NBA, but in Chicago, it stayed put. For any updates on what went down at 2:00 p.m. CT today, make sure to check out our post quickly recapping the madness.

Instead of continuing to focus on the lack of deadline action, let’s run through some other Bulls news in an extremely late set of bullets (it was a busy morning of news, even if there weren’t many Bulls transactions!):

  • In the wake of the NBA Trade Deadline madness, reports about the Bulls’ inner turmoil have surfaced. I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone that Bulls players are reportedly questioning their own place on this roster, as well as the likelihood that anyone would want to join Chicago in free agency, but it’s troubling to hear nonetheless.
  • For more on that, check out our post from earlier today:
  • The Bulls’ great collapse continues.
  • I want to add one thought to this tweet above: Sure, people can sit there and point out that “technically” some of these rebuilds started prior to the Bulls’ true efforts. (1) I think the broader point still stands. (2) I also believe several of these teams reached a new wave or re-started their rebuild around the same time Chicago scooped up their young talent. For example, Philly acquired its first young piece – Ben Simmons – in 2016 (you still then have to build around him correctly). As for the Orlando Magic, they found a new direction with Jonathan Isaac and later hired Steve Clifford. The timeline may not be exact, but over the past several seasons these franchises have been able to do increasingly more than the Bulls. Not to mention, while some of these teams were making smart decisions prior to the Bulls, Chicago was giving gobs of money to Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo.
  • NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson published his latest mailbag this morning and it’s all about trade deadline madness. Give it a read for some updates and a bit of an inside scoop on where the Bulls stand.
  • Meanwhile, if the Bulls haven’t been making you mad enough, they play the Zion Williamson-led New Orleans Pelicans tonight!
  • Don’t worry, the last time these two played, the Pelicans only beat the Bulls 123-108! And that was without Zion! Oh, and in case you forgot, Williamson also had his best game of the preseason against Chicago, scoring 29 points on 12-13 shooting.
  • Regardless, I’m looking forward to some potentially awesome dunks!

  • Pssssh, now the Bulls can’t lose.
  • Patrick Beverley (participating in the Skills Competition) will have to see Jimmy Butler again at All-Star Weekend.

  • Speaking of the Skills Competition, excuse me while I go ball my eyes out.
  • Jabari Parker on the move AGAIN …
  • To try and distract you from your perpetual state of current basketball sadness, give this vid of the GOAT dunking a watch:
