Obsessive Deshaun Watson Watch: “He Just Wants Out” as Texans Mess Starts Pushing His Limits

We’re officially on an Obsessive Deshaun Watson Watch.

A source close to Watson told SI’s Greg Bishop and Jenny Vrentas that Houston’s star quarterback “just wants out.”

The message comes as Watson has gone public with his frustration with the Texans’ front office and organizational decision-making. You’ll want to read the reporting done by Bishop and Vrentas. Especially since it unearths a woeful mess of an organization that’s stepping on rakes at every turn. All despite having one of the game’s premier quarterbacks. Go figure.

And to think, it began with “buzz” that he could ask for a trade. That quickly developed into the Texans preemptively leaking they won’t trade Watson — even if he asks. The budding drama stems from the organization not following through on promises to have Watson involved in the GM and head coach hiring process. Watson has since tweeted his frustration regarding the decisions in what is becoming a very public spat between a star quarterback and the franchise that employs him.

What a disaster of an organization. And that’s coming from me, a life-long Bears fan who’s been writing about this organization every day going on five years.

If Watson truly wants out, it could be an offseason game-changer. A Watson trade could be a landscape-shifting move for both the Texans and the team that acquires him. There is no shortage of teams that need quarterback help. In other words, expect a crowded marketplace should Watson be made available. All that to say that the Chicago Bears should be doing everything in their power to get him. That is, of course, if they’re serious about what they’ve said about the importance of getting the quarterback position right.

This is really starting to look and feel like the start of a pressure campaign to get out of Houston. In a way, it resembles what we’ve seen in recent years with the likes with Antonio Brown, Jalen Ramsey, Jamal Adams, and others. Admittedly, it seems like the Bears are a long-shot to trade for Watson. However, the same feeling hovered over us when Khalil Mack was on the board. And even though I’m unsure if history will repeat itself, I’ll follow until trading for Watson isn’t an option.
