The Chicago Bears will be without one of their most important defensive players.
Adrian Amos is inactive for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Amos, who is one of two safeties to own an “elite” grade from Pro Football Focus, missed practice all week with a hamstring injury and will not start for the first time since Week 4.
The third-year safety from Penn State played just one snap in the first two weeks of the season, has played at a high level since returning. Only Harrison Smith of the Minnesota Vikings has earned a higher grade from PFF than Amos’ 92.3.
HOWEVER, the Bears’ offense will see the return of its most productive offensive linemen. Left guard Josh Sitton is active for Sunday’s game against the 49ers after playing just 15 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles. Sitton was removed from the game early to go into the NFL’s concussion protocol, but his status was up in the air because he was on the injury report all week. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune tweets he expects Sitton to start.
A healthy Sitton and the return of Tom Compton to the rotation pushes backup center Hroniss Grasu back onto the inactive list.
Joining Amos and Grasu among the group of inactive players are safeties Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson, nickel cornerback Bryce Callahan, running back Taquan Mizzell (who was active in Week 12, but did not play), and quarterback Mark Sanchez.
