According to the Bulls, Derrick Jones Jr. suffered a right adductor strain and will not be able to return to Monday night’s contest against the Magic.
While Jones hasn’t added much to the scoreboard in recent weeks, he’s carved himself out quite an important rotational role during the second half of this season. Not only has his defensive versatility been an important part of improving the team’s overall defensive rating, but the Bulls’ small-ball lineups that feature him at center have worked really well in spurts.
Overall, Jones’ ability to make the hustle plays, cut hard to the rim, and snag offensive rebounds (he had 2 steals and OREB before exiting the game tonight) has been a welcomed sight in the absence of Javonte Green. Let’s hope that this injury doesn’t sideline him for too long.
