The Chicago Cubs can still take this series from the Los Angeles Dodgers with a win today, and Jon Lester seems like the perfect fit against a lefty-loaded Dodgers team. In fact, many of the Dodgers’ regulars are sitting in this one presumably precisely because Lester is on the mound. Not hard to see that particular issue looming for the Dodgers in the postseason (not just from the Cubs, but against all lefty starters).
Filling in for the ravaged Dodgers rotation is righty Brock Stewart, a pitcher of whom I was completely unaware until today (and, even for relatively obscure players, that’s unusual for me). He’s a 24-year-old 2014 draft pick who, despite not being a top round selection, and despite a so-so first full season in the depths of the minors in 2015, rocketed from High-A to AA to AAA to the big leagues all in 2016. His numbers in the minors are sublime, but he doesn’t yet have much big league experience. Perhaps the Cubs can help remind him of the subtle differences in the majors.[adinserter block=”1″]
