This New Netflix Docuseries Following NFL Quarterbacks Looks Awesome

NFL

On Wednesday, Netflix continued adding to its sports catalog, announcing that they will launch an inside look at the day-to-day lives of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota in their new docuseries, “Quarterback.”

The streaming giant announced the show — that will premiere this summer — on their Twitter on Wednesday afternoon:

The new series is the first project between Netflix and NFL Films. Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions are also involved in the project.

The NFL also released a statement on Wednesday afternoon regarding the news of the upcoming launch, calling the series a unique look at an NFL season through the lens of an NFL quarterback. According to the NFL’s release, all three quarterbacks were mic’d up for every game this season.

“Netflix today announced its first partnership with the NFL: Quarterback, a new docu-series that will take a unique look at each season, told through the lens of NFL quarterbacks. This year, the series features exclusive, unprecedented access to Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota from the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion, following them on and off the field, from inside the huddle with teammates to inside their homes with their families. It will premiere in summer 2023.

“For the first time ever, the NFL allowed quarterbacks to be mic’d up for every single game of a season. The upcoming show will feature behind-the-scenes access to some of the biggest moments of the season, as Mahomes set an NFL record for total offense on his way to winning the league and Super Bowl MVP awards; Cousins engineered the greatest comeback in NFL history and led the Minnesota Vikings to an NFC North Division title; and Mariota took over as the starting quarterback in his first season with the Atlanta Falcons.”

Patrick Mahomes — who’s newly formed 2PM Productions will help produce the series — called the opportunity “a unique and intimate look at what life is like as a starting QB.”

“Playing quarterback in the NFL is a unique experience that has some pretty incredible ups and downs,” said Peyton Manning. “Thanks to this collaboration with our partners at NFL Films, 2PM Productions and Netflix, fans will be given a unique and intimate look at what life is like as a starting QB.”

Quarterback will join a growing list of sports offerings on Netflix. Golf fans like myself indeed just wrapped up “Full Swing.” The docuseries followed the day-to-day lives of some of the most notable PGA Tour players and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at some of the decisions to join the LIV Golf Tour.

I loved Full Swing and can’t wait to catch Quarterback this summer. Looking into the decision to go to the LIV Tour was fascinating. I also loved the Tony Finau episode. Finau has such a great backstory and relatable family-driven life. Netflix has done a great job with all its entries into the sports world thus far. QB1 (which profiled three blue-chip quarterbacks through their senior year) was another favorite of mine.

According to the NFL’s press release, Netflix also has a David Beckham docuseries planned for 2023.
