Even in the offseason, it’s good to see that Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky has his head on right and priorities in line heading into the 2019 season.
During an appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program, Trubisky participated in a segment called “Throw and Tell.” And like a good sport, Trubisky went all-in on the fun and this is what it looked like:

Alright, so it took him a couple of tries to nail that first target of the Packers being the team he wants to take down most in 2019. But hey, we all know how art imitates life, so it’s probably fitting that Trubisky went 0-for-2 in his first two attempts at beating Green Bay before nailing that third opportunity. As a self-proclaimed rhythm passer, it only makes sense that Trubisky was heating up as the Throw and Tell session went on. Most hostile environment? Boom! There go the Saints and the Superdome, a place he took a licking (but kept it close) as a rookie. Which team is winning Super Bowl LIV? I mean, duh. Who does he want interviewing him after his team’s Super Bowl win? Also, “duh” … but for some reason, Kay Adams wasn’t an option, so Trubisky targeted Nate Burleson. Good choice, Nate is fun.
Trubisky’s appearance on GMFB was just part of him making the media rounds during Super Bowl week. In Jeff Joniak’s journal over at WBBM Newsradio 780-AM’s website, the Bears play-by-play voice takes note of the excitement Trubisky has entering his second year under Matt Nagy.
“His passion for the game, his energy he brings on a daily basis — he’s just a guy you want to be around,” Trubisky said. “He’s just so genuine, down to earth. He’s a great teacher.”
And if Trubisky has his way, the teacher-pupil relationship he has with his head coach will last for a long time. Trubisky’s first and second years in Chicago couldn’t be any different from each other. His rookie year was full of trials and tribulations as the offense spun its wheels under the direction of Head Coach John Fox and Offensive Coordinator Dowell Loggains. But under Nagy and OC Mark Helfrich, Trubisky and the offense found some things that worked. And while the consistency didn’t get there in Year 1, the building blocks for a better future are in place.
In an appearance on NESN, Trubisky expressed optimism moving forward.
“Hopefully, I’m just building toward a great career in Chicago,” Trubisky said. “I absolutely love it here. I want to spend my whole career here. Just continue to build a great team, and continue to get better and better. Produce for this city, this town, and these amazing fans.”

Since the Bears’ postseason elimination, it has been easy to spot a more active and forward-facing Trubisky. Between the Pro Bowl festivities and Super Bowl week in Atlanta, Trubisky has been out there more often in the last month than he was all last year, and we kinda dig it. Trubisky is having a ball out there, and as the face of the franchise quarterback, the energy he brings to the table continues to give me hope that even brighter days are ahead for the Bears.
For the sake of his mental health and to commit his full focus on the task of lifting the Bears out of the NFC North’s cellar, Trubisky took a page out of LeBron James’ playbook, went Zero Dark 10 on us, and left social media during the season. Eventually, this offseason will come to an end and Trubisky will likely go dark again. Because much like #SleeveGameMitch became a thing after his six-touchdown performance against the Buccaneers, athletes can be creatures of habit and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it … right?
So let’s enjoy Trubisky while he’s out of his shell and maybe we’ll get more as he enters Year 3 as a pro. Because if this is any indication, Bears fans will totally be able to vibe with QB1.
