While still not officially official, details are surfacing regarding the Bears’ trade of Anthony Miller to the Texans.

And even though the return isn’t what we were once dreaming of, it’s surprisingly good from the Bears’ point of view.

ESPN’s Field Yates tweets a 2022 fifth-round pick is coming to Chicago. And on the other end of things, Houston is receiving Miller and a 2022 seventh-round selection.
All things considered, I love this deal for the Bears. Especially if the Texans stink again. Early projections have the Texans picking first overall in 2022. Meaning that the Chicago-bound fifth-round pick could essentially be seen as a late fourth-round choice. Knowing what GM Ryan Pace has done with Day 3 picks in the past, this is a solid outcome. Recent Day 3 value picks include RB Jordan Howard (2016), S Eddie Jackson and RB Tarik Cohen (2017), DL Bilal Nichols (2018), CB Duke Shelley (2019), and WR Darnell Mooney (2020). Again, that’s not a bad haul when you think about Day 3 picks as throws at a dart board.
Then again, it stinks that the Bears have to trade a seventh-round pick to get something of value in a deal where they are packaging a 2018 second-round pick. But that’s the cost of doing business. This change of scenery deal looks like something that could benefit Chicago, Houston, and Miller. What’s not to like?
