Six Blackhawks Prospects Will Play in the Frozen Four Field

On Sunday evening, the NCAA announced the 16 universities that will compete for this year’s Frozen Four championship. And the Chicago Blackhawks will be very well represented with five prospects heading to the dance.

Boston College is the No. 1 overall seed. The fourth No. 1 seed is Michigan State, the champions of the Big Ten.

Frank Nazar III and the University of Michigan are in the Maryland Heights regional. They’ll face North Dakota in the first round and could get another crack at Michigan State for a ticket to the Frozen Four.

Ryan Greene and Boston University are the No. 2 overall seed. They will be the top seed in the Sioux Falls Regional. Oliver Moore, Sam Rinzel and the University of Minnesota are in the Sioux Falls region as well.

Aidan Thompson and the University of Denver are the No. 3 overall seed. They’ll face the least talked about Blackhawks prospect in the college ranks, Liam Gorman and UMass-Amherst. Gorman, 23, spent three years at Princeton before transferring to UMass-Amherst. He produced only three assists in 27 games this season. His rights were acquired by the Blackhawks for a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft during the draft two years ago. I don’t see Gorman being a player the Blackhawks will sign this summer.

Providence Regional

  • No. 1 overall Boston College will face Michigan Tech in the first round
  • Wisconsin will face Quinnipiac in the other first round matchup.
  • Maryland Heights Regional

  • No. 4 overall Michigan State will face Western Michigan in the first round.
  • North Dakota will face Michigan in the other first round matchup.
  • Sioux Falls Regional

  • No. 2 overall Boston University will face RIT in the first round.
  • Minnesota will face Omaha in the other first round matchup.
  • Springfield Regional

  • No. 3 overall Denver will face UMass-Amherst in the first round.
  • Maine will face Cornell in the other first round matchup.
