After his call-up this week, the Chicago Cubs are almost ready to insert Jeff Samardzija into the rotation.
Manager Mike Quade said Friday they hope to insert Jeff Samardzija into the rotation for the Sept. 18 game in Florida, although cautioned that it’s not “set in stone.” Samardzija was called up Tuesday after Triple-A Iowa’s season ended. Samardzija was available in the Cubs bullpen Friday. The right-hander has been willing to do whatever the team needs.
“He showed up here and said, ‘Q, I’m ready to go however you need me and you appreciate that,” Quade said. Muskat Ramblings.
It’s unclear whom Samardzija would be replacing in the rotation (if anyone), but all eyes will be on the young man who has worked very hard this year to get himself into a position to be a candidate for the Cubs’ 2011 rotation.
Not that there was a reason not to root for him to succeed, but considering his revamped attitude (and arsenal), I’ll be pulling hard for him.
