As rumored late last night, it is indeed the Oakland A’s who picked up Mets closer Jeurys Familia today in trade.

Infielder Will Toffey currently shows up as the A’s 17th best prospect, and Bobby Wahl – a 26-year-old AAA reliever – is not ranked. Even with the IFA money, it doesn’t appear to be a substantial return for Familia, which I expect is partly because of the previous domestic violence suspension, partly because of his down 2017, and partly because the relief market for rentals is not entirely barren of options.
Hopefully that will bode well for the Cubs in their own pursuit to pick up a quality reliever at some point in the next 10 days.
