This is not the news we were hoping for today. The word “concerning” is, well, concerning.
Caleb Kilian’s injury issue is with his shoulder, and it was enough that the Cubs went straight to an MRI:
Shoulders are scary for pitchers. Period. Unlike elbow injuries, which often take you out for a long time but from which you can eventually get fully back to who you were, sometimes shoulder injuries forever change a pitcher’s ability to do what he did before. The very bad shoulder injuries, anyway.
But we don’t yet know that this is what we’re looking at. Because often these situations turn out to be muscular, which, sure, takes a guy out for a while, but simply requires rest and rehab. As long as the structures of Kilian’s shoulder are ultimately all right, this could wind up OK. That’s all I’m hoping for.
