Ezekiel Elliott’s Six-Game Suspension Is Back On

The on-again, off-again suspension story surrounding Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is back on. A federal judge has denied the NFLPA’s request for a preliminary injunction, meaning the six-game suspension handed down by the NFL in August has been restored.

To reset the situation:

  • Elliott was initially suspended for six games in August
  • The NFL and NFLPA followed by exchanging some heated tweets
  • He appealed the suspension and was able to play in Week 1
  • The NFL then successfully appealed his injunction, which reinstated the suspension
  • The suspension was put on hold as Judge Paul Crotty placed a temporary restraining order until Judge Katherine Polk Failla was present to rule
  • Fallia’s ruling came down on Monday night
  • After playing the last two weeks after receiving a temporary restraining order on Oct. 17, Elliott’s suspension will begin Sunday when the Cowboys play the Kansas City Chiefs. From there, Elliott will miss games against the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Redskins, and the New York Giants. He will be eligible to return on December 17 against the Oakland Raiders in Week 15. The Cowboys will miss Elliott and his 690 rushing yards, which rank third in the NFL.

Elliott has 24 hours from when the ruling was handed down to consider his appeal options, which could be limited at this stage of the proceedings.
