The Cubs beat the Cardinals in their NLDS home opener, but perhaps not in the way that folks expected. With the wind howling out, each of Jake Arrieta and Michael Wacha struggled to go deep, and the bats ultimately decided the game. I’ll have more on the pitching – and on Addison Russell’s early exit – later.
The Cubs hit six home runs on the night, which was the first time a team had done that in postseason history. That’s neat. From where The Wife and I were watching in center field, we could tell Anthony Rizzo’s shot (the most) was clearly gone off the bat, Kris Bryant’s, Jorge Soler’s, and Starlin Castro’s were obviously gone, and we had to wait a moment on each of Kyle Schwarber’s and Dexter Fowler’s. Not sure how they looked on TV, but that’s how they looked to us.
