Enhanced Box Score: Marlins 6, Cubs 5 – June 7, 2017

Can’t win ’em all, I guess. But a six-game winning streak after the six-game losing streak sure would have been nice.

I did the best to listen on the choppy radio tonight as I’m on my way to Chicago (I stopped at a 24-hour McDonald’s to write this up). Please forgive the brevity and any factual goofs.

The Cubs kept battling in this one, chipping away at the lead the Marlins were able to build against John Lackey (and then add to thanks to a wild baserunning play by Dee Gordon). Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ each went deep, and Schwarber added a couple doubles.

The Cubs put the tying run on base in the 8th, but Don Mattingly brought in A.J. Ramos for the extended save, and he struck out Happ. In the 9th, the Cubs put the tying run on base again, but Ramos managed to stop a would-be Ben Zobrist hit with his cleat, and the comeback wasn’t meant to be.
