Could this be the start of workout video season for Lonzo Ball?
As you know, Ball has not set foot on a live NBA court since January 14, 2022, having undergone multiple surgeries on his knee, including a cartilage transplant procedure. In fact, Chicago ruled him out for the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign before it even tipped off. And questions remain about whether or not the 26-year-old point guard will ever regain enough strength to make a full return.
For what it’s worth, the most recent update for Ball was somewhat encouraging. Earlier this month, head coach Billy Donovan shared that Ball could finally begin running, cutting, and jumping. While we hadn’t seen a lot of that in action just yet, trainer Chris Johnson (Jus Hoop) gave us a glimpse to begin this week.
Johnson shared footage of Ball dunking twice via Instagram, which you can see here:

In all seriousness, we have to take this video – as well as literally every single Lonzo Ball update – with a major grain of salt. Let’s not forget we technically got footage of Ball running and dunking before he even had his most recent surgery. The harsh truth is that we can’t fully believe that Ball will be able to play again until … well … he plays again. Footage of a couple of dunks in a row isn’t going to change that.
Still, I merely share this as someone who is merely rooting for Lonzo Ball to improve his body physically. The guy has been through so much from such a young age, and I’m sure moments like these help bring a sense of normalcy.
I also can’t help but wonder if this is only the start of some more footage rolling out of Ball’s rehab. While there still remains zero timetable for his return, we know he’s at least doing a bit more on the basketball court. With the summer inching closer and closer, perhaps he’ll be more inclined to share some of that progress. We’ll see.
