One year ago today … EVERYTHING CHANGED.
On this date in 2018, the Chicago Bears acquired star pass-rusher Khalil Mack from the Oakland Raiders in a game-changing blockbuster deal, then gave him the largest contract ever handed out to a defensive player on a day that will long be remembered as changing the trajectory of the franchise.
All it cost the Bears to get the NFL’s third-best player (as voted by his peers and league insiders) was first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-round selection in 2019, and a third-rounder in 2020. Oh, and the Bears are getting a second-round pick in 2020 for their trouble.
But for a player who earned first-team All-Pro honors, a Pro Bowl invitation, a spot in Madden’s exclusive 99 club, the Dick Butkus Award, and still wants more, it was well worth the tip-top cost to get a tip-top performer
Let’s take a moment to re-visit this wonderful moment in Bears history:
