Talking Through Trubisky Trouble Together and Other Bears Bullets

Do yourself a favor and find some time to listen to your favorite artists first album from beginning to end. I recently did it and immediately felt better about a whole mess of things. Heck, I might give my favorite another listen later in the afternoon.

  • This is what it sounds like when you throw no touchdowns in the season’s first two games:
  • The only way you could have drawn up a worse start to the year for Mitch Trubisky would have been if you scripted an 0-2 start for the Bears. Thankfully, NFC Special Teams Player of the Week Eddy Piñeiro saved us from having to jump into that deep end of the pool. But still … Trubisky needs to get it together.
  • It is times like this when it is valuable to take in all the different perspectives that you can to get a full grasp on things. WGN’s Jarrett Payton provides a reminder of how it isn’t time to panic just yet, and his assessment of Trubisky’s struggles make sense: “I knew it would take some time. How does he get confidence? Simple, playing more. That might not be what you want to hear, but it’s the truth. Confidence comes when you have a firm understanding of your job on the football field. That’s when you can play freely and let your athleticism take over. I study and watch Trubisky. He works hard and is dedicated to his craft. All of this is not to say Trubisky can’t be great. But we’re going to have to wait a little longer to figure that out.”
  • There was always a sense that Trubisky was the biggest project of that 2017 NFL Draft class of quarterbacks. He was the least experienced, but had notable tools and skills that made him attractive. I have my own set of Trubisky-related concerns, but I am not ready to give up on him as a player. Even though he has not shown an ability to play at a high level with consistency to this point, it is difficult for me to give up on someone who was a highly rated prospect who also has a work ethic to match. I feel like a broken record when I talk about how Trubisky made real, tangible strides in his development last year. And seeing him improve from Year 1 to Year 2 provided hope that he could find another gear in Year 3. But just because it hasn’t happened yet does not mean it will not happen at all. In the end, I’m willing to see how this script plays out this season before I take any hard stances when talking Trubisky.

  • This is a message worth sharing:
  • Speakers and soundbars are among your Deals of the Day today at Amazon.
  • Let the offensive line get some much-deserved love:

  • This is unexpected:
  • Let the record show that Mitch Trubisky hit an open receiver on a screen shot:
  • There is only one correct answer here:
  • Roquan Smith taking a second-year leap would be fun:
  • One of the free agents who was in town for a tryout with the Bears on Tuesday appears close to finding a new home, as ESPN’s Jenna Laine tweets that Washington will sign pass-rushing outside linebacker Noah Spence. Shane Ray is still out there, though.
  • Presented without comment:
  • I meant to drop this in Bullets the other day and just plum forgot, but the message is still important:
  • In the latest installment of “Everyone Has a Podcast But Me,” Michael sits down with David Kaplan, the hardest working man on the Chicago sports landscape:
  • There are few people I enjoy having a drink and a conversation with than Shakeia, so while I haven’t listened to Laurence Holmes’ podcast with her, I know it is going to be good:
  • Come to think of it, why didn’t I ever get mail intended for early-90s Indians prospect Luis Medina?
  • I’m not 100 percent sure how to feel about Zach LaVine’s future, but that there is a path to being an All-Star is highly intriguing:

Luis C. Medina, who you can find on Twitter at lcm1986, has been covering the Chicago Bears at Bleacher Nation since 2017. Since then, he has written about 3 head coaches, 5 play-callers, and 11 starting quarterbacks. Previously, Luis wrote about the Cubs and MLB at BN (2015-16) and worked in the Chicago Tribune sports department (2011-16). He also co-hosted a Cubs postgame show, Outside the Ivy, in 2019.
