When it comes to current Carson Wentz trade rumors, there’s plenty of smoke, fire, and eyes looking onto the situation.
In addition to the Bears being a presumptive partner in trade talks, the Colts are a team widely connected to Wentz. Remember, Wentz’s best season came with Indy’s Frank Reich calling the shots as the offensive coordinator in Philly. And seeing that the Eagles just hired Reich’s former OC Nick Sirianni, it’s easy to piece together how a Wentz deal could make sense.
And yet, Colts GM Chris Ballard did is best to pump the brakes on the situation:
Chris Ballard is joining @dandakich right now. Thread to follow.
On the QB/Wentz chatter: “We are exploring lots of options…I can tell you this, there’s no trade going down today.”

That Ballard would say that a trade isn’t happening today isn’t unexpected. Keep in mind that it’s Super Bowl weekend. And the NFL would highly frown upon a high-profile trade going down days before its marquee event. There was a reason the Lions and Rams worked quickly to consummate the Matthew Stafford-Jared Goff deal last weekend. All that to say, we’re probably not going to get a wink and a handshake deal announced tonight. But something could get AGREED to as early as today or some point this weekend.
Or it could be pushed down the line.
In any case, we’ll keep tabs on this situation as it develops. Especially if these moving parts include the Bears.
