Javonte Green isn’t going anywhere.
After initially signing a 10-day contract to join the Chicago Bulls, the organization has now announced that they will officially add Green to the roster for the remainder of the season. In other words, he is now eligible to appear in the postseason, which wouldn’t have been allowed under the confines of a 10-day deal.
Considering the roster sat at a full 15 players, the team shared that they would waive Terry Taylor to make room for Javonte Green. Taylor appeared in 31 games for the Bulls this season, averaging just 6.1 minutes per game.
Of course, Green spent two full seasons with the Chicago Bulls after they acquired him during the 2020-21 trade deadline. The undersized forward proved to be a high-energy swiss-army-knife and became a staple in the rotation. Green appeared in 113 games over his first two and half seasons with the team, even starting 46 of those contests.
Javonte Green’s season was limited to just 32 games during the 2022-23 campaign due to a mid-season knee surgery. While he was able to work his way back onto the floor in late March, he never quite looked like his old self and struggled to reclaim his spot in the rotation. Arturas Karnisovas and Co. ultimately decided to move on from the versatile wing in the offseason in pursuit of more traditional size and shooting.
This led Green to sign with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G-League, where he remained until the Bulls scooped him up with the 10-day deal this season. Green immediately reminded everyone how impactful he could be, playing 19 minutes and posting 5 points, 4 rebounds, and a block in a win over the Pacers.
Green would go on to play at least 15 minutes in the next two games before missing the Bulls’ battle with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday due to personal reasons. Any concern about his availability moving forward, though, has likely disappeared. Javonte Green is now a full-time member of the Bulls roster, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him instantly reclaim his spot in the rotation.
